TRI-M is the music national honor society for middle schoolers and high schoolers in a school that participates in the program. TRI-M stands for the three M’s which are Modern Music Masters. I have the privilege of being the president of the organization at my school for the school year 2021- 2022. Some events that I would help plan would be the concerts for the band, orchestra and chorus classes in my school. Additionally, I would be helping out with the musicals that take place during the school year as well. Aside from those events, I want to help out different music schools or hospitals by asking the other members if they would be willing to perform there once in a while. For the music schools as well, they might even be able to teach a class. This would also be possible at an afterschool and I want to do a fundraiser for if we can raise money for music instruments for a school as well. Overall, TRI-M is ready for another year of greatness and I can’t wait to start.
National Honor Society is an organization that is there to recognize the pillars of character, service, leadership and academics. They hope to help out organizations everywhere whenever someone would need help. I have the honor of being the community service senior chair at my school. As I am leading the community service group along with my junior chair, we hope to find events that celebrate all cultures and also make a positive impact on planet earth. Some long term partnerships that we do are with the Queens Botanical Garden, Dorot Card Making, Soup Kitchens, park clean ups, and lastly Chinese LIteracy Program. These are just some of the organizations that we love because we are able to participate in all of the culture events that Queens Botanical Garden hosts along with seeing all the beautiful sceneries that are there in the garden. Dorot card making is special to us as well because we can send heart warming messages to elders and other kids that are unable to see their family. Park clean up helps the planet out and soup kitchens allow our peers to help those who are less fortunate and to see the people as those who are in need of temporary help instead of looking down upon them. Lastly, the Chinese Literacy Program helps elders learn English so they can have a better life in the United States without a language barrier.
HOPE is also a volunteer organization and I have the honor of being the Vice President of the club. Similar to the National Honor Society, we participate in a lot of volunteer activities as well. The club is dedicated to teaching the members leadership and social skills. We want them to be able to experience the outside while helping others out. We tend to welcome them to participate in events that are from a wide variety. We have worked with Japan Festival, Lunar New Year event at Grand Street, school book drives, and that’s just to name a few. The group of caring volunteers always display professionalism that the organizations would always love to call us back to help them out year after year.
Big Sibs is an in-school club in which the upperclassmen help the incoming freshman transition to high school. We would send them emails every month in regards to updates that the school sent out or be there to just check up on how their month has been going so far. I started with this club ever since my sophomore year and I stayed in it ever since then. I was grateful that there were people who were welcoming and always available for whatever question I had and I felt that since it is in my power, I will give back to the school as well. I want to be able to help those people who are lost as well. The big sibs always gave advice that we might not have learned about elsewhere. Overall they made my transition into high school less scary and I did not get so lost in a large building.
This is an organization that also recruits volunteers as well. Some events that I have participated in with them were the park clean ups, painting benches, organizing an Easter event and lastly tutoring students during the pandemic. Overall the organization is great in the sense that they are in all different parks so that it is accessible and easy to get to.
